Monroe Emanuel passed away on November 6, 2016 in Uniondale, Long Island.  He was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 24, 1924 to Meyer Emanuel and Florence Laibson Emanuel.  He attended Wagner College until he enlisted in the Air Force in 1942.  He was trained as a pilot and radio operator, and eventually helped ferry planes to Italy while passing through Tunis and Casablanca.  In May of 1945, after returning to the US, he proposed to his high school sweetheart Roslyn Erichson, and they were married on a base in Savannah, Georgia.

Later he was transferred to Roswell, New Mexico and was assigned to be the head pharmacist of his base because of his prior work experience in his family’s pharmacy.  This proved to be the beginning of a notable career as a pharmacist, and following his discharge, he completed his degree in the College of Pharmacy at St. John’s University in 1949.  He began his career at his father’s drugstore, Emanuel Pharmacy in Brooklyn, NY, and later was the owner of Ropage Pharmacy, also in Brooklyn. He was proud to be inducted into the Jewish War Veterans at age 90 for his service in World War II, and it was very meaningful to him when he received his hat.

Monroe was passionate about old movies and books, and he was an avid photographer.  His love of life could be seen in his relationships with his family.  He is preceded in death by his wife Roslyn Erichson Emanuel and his son Alan Stuart Emanuel.  He is survived by his brother Joel Emanuel, daughters Marsha Emanuel Altman (Mark) and Linda Emanuel Family, grandchildren Gail Altman Miller (Aaron) and David Matthew Altman (Erin), great-grandchildren Alanna Lillian Rose Miller and Pearl McKeown Altman, and companion Barbara Stukes.

Contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be sent in his memory to the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN, 4915 Saint Elmo Avenue, Suite 202, Bethesda, MD 20814).
