Amparo Martinez, age 85 of Miami, Florida, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born on January 26, 1934 to Antonio Gonzalez and Amparo Gonzalez. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Narciso J. Martinez who was her primary caretaker since her diagnosis nearly a decade ago.
A loving mother to 5 children, Amparo was passionate about learning. She had a lifelong love of literature, a fascination with language, and a great appreciation for all types of music. On the weekends, the entire family would be awoken to operas, zarzuelas, classical music, and showtunes playing loudly on the stereo. She sought beauty -- in art, in music, and in nature. She took her children to the museums, the theatre, and the botanical gardens and would never turn away a stray cat.
Amparo is also survived by her five children: Narciso Martinez, Adolfo Martinez, Antonio Martinez, Stephanie Martinez, and Adrian Martinez, along with a stepdaughter, Lourdes Martinez, who lived with her and aided tremendously in her care. She had an extensive family including loving daughters-in-law, son-in-law, nieces, 13 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
“When a person dies he only appears to die. He is still very much alive in the past, so it is very silly for people to cry at his funeral. All moments, past, present and future, always have existed, always will exist." Kurt Vonnegut
