Shy of her 58th birthday, Betsy Victor died at her home in the late hours of November 6, 2018, with her husband by her side, after a tough battle with breast cancer.
Betsy was born on Saturday, November 12, 1960, the third daughter to Mr. Nicholas Villele Victor and Marie Jeanne Eunide Victor (nee Pierre), in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Betsy was the third of five children. Her childhood was spent between Haiti, Zaire and New York where she emigrated at the age of 15.
Her first marriage in 1983 ended after a few years. However, on July 1st, 1996, she was the happy bride of a young widower, Herman Benjamin.
Betsy graduated from Erasmus High School in Brooklyn in 1979 and went on to York College for accounting. She worked 10 years at Numismatic, then worked for 22 years at Kaye Scholer. In 2014, she joined the firm Proskauer and worked in the finance department until a stroke paralyzed her in late February 2018.
Betsy did not bear any children. However, she was intimately engaged in the upbringing of her godchildren, nieces and nephews.
Betsy is survived by her beloved husband, Herman Benjamin, her sisters Margareth, Catherine, Karoll, and her brother Jean-Villele.
"When I am laid, am laid in earth,
may my wrongs create
No trouble, no trouble in, in the breast,
When I am laid, am laid in earth,
may my wrongs create
No trouble, no trouble in, in thy breast
Remember me, remember me
But ah! Forget my fate."
