As we say farewell to our beloved Nancy James, it is in good faith to highlight how wonderful she was. She Emigrated to the US and settled on Long Island. Nancy was not only a great friend, sister, Aunt, mother, & grandmother, but she was always there to lend a helping hand to ANYONE in need, whether she knew you or not.
Nancy was heavily involved in politics, helping with both the Obama and Hillary campaigns. You could not tell her that Obama wasn’t her brother. Around elections she would work the voting booths day and night and was never late for opening and was the last to leave at closing.
She often traveled to see relatives and made sure she kept in contact with everyone. She was well known for sending holiday and birthday cards, having written down everyone’s birthday in her trusty calendar. Nancy was in the post office every single day sending boxes and cards to family and friends. Oh, and don’t forget about those barrels back home.
The time of year that everyone anticipated was Christmas time, “Black Cake Time.” Nancy would make sure she was in the stores collecting all the ingredients needed and the best rum to soak the cake in. She had her large wooden spoon and red mixing bin ready to go.
If you knew Nancy, you knew that she never let anything phase her and never held a grudge. Her famous line for situations that were a little rough was “leave it to Papa Jesus.” And she would do just that and keep pushing forward.
Nancy was a carefree, kindhearted and spirited woman, who lived a robust and independent life. She never waited for anyone to do things for her.
She leaves behind her children Marlin, Robert(Ava)& Mark(Taina); grandchildren Ginelle, Phillip, Naisha, Mark & Michael; Sister Peggy, Brother Ian & a host of nieces and nephews. She will join her brother Karl and sister Kemba in the Divine Kingdom on Heaven.
