Obituary
Allana Marie Singh was born on June 11, 1977 in Jamaica, Queens, New York, to Philbert and Joan Singh. She migrated to Jamaica, West Indies at three and a half years old. At the age of seventeen, after completing high school, she returned to the United States where she completed a degree in Culinary Arts.
Allana was very family-oriented; she loved her family and took great pride in the bonds she shared. She was a fierce protector for her younger sister, Lisa, and was always concerned about her wellbeing. Since Allana did not have children, she became more than an aunt to her nephew and niece, Elijah and Leah. Allana also loved her dog Marley; she was her baby, and she was always by her side.
Allana was such a beautiful soul. She was as genuine a person as you would ever meet. She was so loving and caring, and whoever came in contact with her immediately fell in love with her spirit and down to earth nature. Allana had a “ride or die” personality when it came to her family and friends. She would always make a special effort to show up, and if for some reason she couldn’t, she always made sure you knew why. Allana was a true Gemini. She was very outgoing and personable, but if she didn’t like you, you would know it. She was very upfront about how she felt, and she was not afraid to stand up for herself or for those she cared about.
Allana is what we would call a food connoisseur. Not only was she an amazing cook, but she also enjoyed trying new foods and restaurants. She always knew where to go if you had a taste for a particular cuisine. She loved cooking for people, even though she disliked cooking for herself. The biggest compliment for her was to hear how much people enjoyed her food, whether by the noise they made while eating it or just by the feedback she received after they ate. I won’t say any names, but there are a few cousins in here who are famous for their elaborate and expressive eating sounds. Just know, if you were invited for a meal, you better not show up hungry. Allana was meticulous about her food and took special care with each ingredient. But, the wait was more than worth it. Her food was always filled with flavor and love.
Allana was the epitome of “the life of the party.” She loved going out and knew how to enjoy herself no matter where she was or who she was with, and was willing to go out on her own if no one was available. If you were having a party, you wanted Allana there. She brought a vibe to every atmosphere that only she could bring. She loved music and always wanted to be a DJ. She knew so many songs from different genres and knew she could skillfully put them together in a way that would keep people dancing and enjoying themselves.
There is no summing up Allana in any concise way. Even though she left us at 43 years old, she more than proved herself to be dedicated, intelligent, soulful, skillful, beautiful and fun to be around. Allana danced when she wanted, sang in the car all the time, traveled on a whim, and lived her life on her own terms. This is how she should be remembered.
Allana is survived by her parents, Philbert and Joan; sisters, Lisa and Shanice; nephew and niece, Elijah and Leah; her dog, Marley; aunts, uncles, cousins, many friends and a host of other relatives. We will miss her.
