Amanda Romain January 14, 1927 – March 29, 2026
Amanda Romain, beloved mother, matriarch, and guiding light to many, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, at the age of 99.
Though the devoted biological mother of two children, Amanda’s nurturing spirit extended far beyond her immediate family. To a vast circle of nieces and nephews, godsons and goddaughters, younger cousins, and even to orphans whose despair she tenderly transformed into hope, she was a mother in both heart and deed. Her compassion was boundless and her generosity unceasing. Those fortunate enough to know her found encouragement, direction, and a maternal warmth that inspired steadfast faith in life.
Amanda was not only a woman of deep feeling but also of remarkable strength and endurance. She faced the tests of life with calm resolve, responding to hardship with grace and perseverance. Her poise, wisdom, and unwavering willpower made her a pillar of support for her family and her community alike.
A woman of profound Catholic faith, Amanda’s life was deeply rooted in devotion and spiritual purpose. Her trust in God sustained her through every season, guiding her thoughts and actions with humility and compassion. She made yearly pilgrimages to sacred shrines dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, St. Claire, Our Lady of Perpetual Succor, and St. Anthony Abbate—journeys that reflected her gratitude, reverence, and steadfast belief in divine mercy. Her devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the Blessed Mother known for her unceasing care and consolation, was especially dear to her heart. Like the image of Mary she revered, Amanda sought always to comfort the afflicted and bring hope to the sorrowing, embodying in daily life the same enduring compassion that inspired her prayers.
Equally admired for her keen intelligence, Amanda was an astute businesswoman—clear-minded, diligent, and fair in all her dealings. Her sense of enterprise was guided by intuition and integrity, earning her respect throughout her life. Beyond her professional pursuits, she embraced joy and creativity in every dimension of living. As a hostess, Amanda was lively, gracious, and full of laughter, her table always abundant and her company always delightful. She was a true gourmet, finding art in flavor and fellowship alike, and she believed that good food shared among friends was one of life’s finest pleasures.
In her final years, Amanda resided at her daughter’s home in New York, surrounded by the love and care of her family. Despite declining health, she continued to serve as a wellspring of guidance and warmth, offering wisdom as generously as ever. In the quiet hours of those later days, she lovingly passed on her cherished culinary secrets to her granddaughters, ensuring that her artistry—and the spirit of togetherness it celebrated—would live on through them.
Amanda’s presence illuminated the lives of countless people. Her faith uplifted the weary, her generosity strengthened the uncertain, and her love bound together generations. Her legacy of compassion, endurance, and joy endures in the hearts of all she touched and in the many lives she helped shape. All with whom she interacted regularly—whether family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, or associates—are forever indebted to her for having partaken of her unparalleled goodness.
