Barbara Louise Dennis

As God was walking through the garden of this world admiring His beautiful flowers, He stopped to choose a special orchid, one that had withstood the winds of time. On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, Barbara Louise Dennis was plucked from the garden and took her place in eternal glory. Barbara was born June 22, 1937, in Savannah, Georgia, to the late parents, William James Dennis Sr. and Mamie Lee Dennis. She was the oldest of the three children, Esther Daniels and the late William Dennis Jr. At an early age, her parents moved the family to New York where she remained until her retirement where she moved to New Jersey. Barbara was married for 46 years to Leonard Louis Bridgett Sr. prior to her divorce, and had three children – Karen Bridgett, and the late Victoria Bridgett and Leonard Bridgett Jr. who both preceded her in death. Barbara pursued her childhood interest with a career in nursing advancing from a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to a Registered Nurse (RN), and later as a Community Health Nurse for the State of New York. She loved nursing and enjoyed the challenges and demands of emergency care, and later in her career, the opportunity to participate in new community-based healthcare initiatives. Barbara enjoyed reading and attending school. She obtained both her Associate and Bachelor’s degrees in Nursing. Barbara enjoyed a variety of activities including arts and crafts; crochet and knitting; watching sports (basketball - The Heat, Dwayne Wade, baseball, granddaughter's soccer); going to museums and the theatre; listening to gospel and R&B music (attending as many Patti Labelle concerts as possible); and keeping up with the TV soap operas through the decades. Her childhood love for her dance classes at the Bernice Johnson studio fueled her desire to support the Alvin Ailey Dance Troupe with her attendance at performances every one to two years. When she was young, she loved to sing and would join the signing clubs at school and the choir at church. Once retired, she continued her interest by joining the church choir. Barbara was a caring person, always had a smile, was easy to talk to, and always remained in good spirits. She made it a point to keep family traditions alive. She inspired all to travel. She had a great sense of humor and made you feel like an individual/special. Her unconditional love, support, and care will be missed. Barbara leaves behind to cherish her memory – her sister, Esther Daniels; daughter Karen Bridgett; grandchildren Kendra Chisolm (Karen), Deynne and Dapee Williams, Loriene, Leonard III, Stephanie and Charles Bridgett (Leonard Jr.); great grandchildren Marcus, Warren, Sade, Daniel, Jazmine; great-great grandchild Brianne; nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
