Berthony (fondly known as Toto) Michel, son of Marie Constance Balthazar and Jean-Jacques Michel, was born on May 7, 1945 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. There, he attended Ecole Jean Marie Guilloux primary school, then Lycee Antenor Firmin high school. He then went on to Lycee Toussaint Louverture where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and Ecole de Commerce Juilen Craan where he graduated with an accounting degree. This led him to work for Royal Bank of Canada as an accountant. In 1966, Toto met Emille Michel, who would later become his wife of almost exactly 50 years. He emigrated to the United States in 1969 and the two married in 1971. Upon moving to the U.S., Toto worked a full-time job, was the co-owner of Pharmacie Notre Dame du Sacred Coeur in Haiti, and attended college part-time. It took nearly a decade, but he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Baruch College in the 1980s. He ended up working as a Collections Manager for various businesses on Long Island until he retired in 2014. He was a devout Christian and selflessly served God’s will and purpose. A very active member of First Baptist Church of Hempstead, he regularly lead prayer groups, was the signing lead, managed the tract ministry, and served as a spiritual mentor to all in need. He enjoyed reading, going for walks, exercising at home, telling jokes, and watching soccer and Mixed Martial Arts. But above all those things, Toto enjoyed spending time with family, especially the grandchildren. One fun fact that most people don’t know about him: he was a very good bowler. Toto left behind his wife, Emille, his 3 children, Judy, Myrtho, and Kurt, his 5 grandchildren, Anastasia, Haidi, Kande, Zoe, and Nikolaos, his 3 brothers, Ulrick, Lesly, and Eddy, his sister Gislaine, his son in law, Alex, his daughter in law, Olivia and countless other family members and friends. He left this world abruptly on July 12, 2021, but will live on in eternity with the Lord.
