Dorothy Kelly Clapper

Dorothy (née Mason) Kelly Clapper of Barefoot Bay, Florida, formerly of Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and Uniondale, New York, peacefully passed away at her home in Barefoot Bay, Florida on the 20th of September 2020. She was 93.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 39 years Thomas J. Kelly, Jr.  Dorothy (Dot) and Thomas are survived by four children, Maureen Clifford (William), Kathleen Polo (James), Nancy Ponzini (Lewis) and John J. Kelly, 8 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.  Although her family was dispersed throughout the country, she was proud to have remained active in all of their lives.  Dorothy subsequently was married to George Clapper who predeceased her, and also was predeceased by her sister Wilma Lizotte.

Dot was an active woman who was proud to have lived her life on her own terms.  She was an executive secretary at Travelers Insurance Co. in Garden City, New York for many years, and in her free time enjoyed golfing and bowling.  She was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary in Uniondale, New York where Thomas served for a time as Post Commander.  After relocating to Florida, she was a member of the Praise New York Club of Barefoot Bay, the women’s golf and bowling leagues, and was a volunteer at the Sebastian River Medical Center for 27 years where she was recognized for the longevity of her service.

A Funeral Mass celebrating her life will be offered at 12 noon on Friday October 9th, at St Martha’s Roman Catholic in Uniondale, New York.  Interment at Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale, New York to follow.
