Emille Michel

Born on December 14, 1954, in Saint-Marc, Haiti, Emille was the youngest of nine children born to Emmanuel and Anefise Pierre-Jean.  Affectionately nicknamed Manmie as a baby, the name remained with her for the rest of her life.

She attended Catholic school in Haiti before emigrating to the United States, where she settled in Nyack, New York, and graduated from Nyack High School.

In 1966, Emille met Berthony (fondly known as Toto) Michel, who would later become her husband of nearly 50 years. The two were married in 1971, and one year later, they welcomed their first child. As a young mother, she worked full time while caring for her growing family. She held positions in several office departments, including accounting and bookkeeping, and later welcomed two more children.

The two eventually moved to Long Island where Emille made the decision to pursue a career in nursing. She graduated from Nassau Community College in 1994 with a nursing degree and went on to spend more than 20 years serving as a psychiatric registered nurse before retiring in 2016. Her work reflected her strength, compassion, and dedication to caring for others.

Emille was a devout Christian who raised her children to believe in the Word of God. She attended church regularly, and when she could not be there in person, she could be found reading her Bible. She was also passionate about health and wellness, often stressing the importance of eating healthy, staying active, going for walks, exercising, and encouraging her family to do the same. She loved life, family gatherings, and any opportunity to dress up and celebrate. She loved to dance and never missed a party or a chance to enjoy herself with those she loved.

Emille leaves behind her three children, Judy, Myrtho, and Kurt; her five grandchildren, Anastasia, Haidi, Kande, Zoe, and Nikolaos; her sister, Elsie; son-in-law, Alex; daughter-in-law, Olivia; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will cherish her memory.

Emille Pierre-Jean Michel (Tati Manmi), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on August 2, 2026, after giving this world everything she had. She will live forever in the hearts of those who loved her and in eternity with the Lord.

Emille’s faith, strength, joy, and love for her family will remain her lasting legacy. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
