GEORGE LAWRENCE HERRING
September 2, 1942 – January 10, 2025
George Lawrence Herring, eldest son of the late Charlie Herring and Beulah Mae Herring was born in Goldsboro, Wayne County, North Carolina on September 2, 1942. His final days were spent at Lynbrook Restorative Rehab & Nursing Center in Lynbrook, NY where he passed of natural causes at the age of 82.
In November 1964 he was inducted into the US Army and did his Basic Training at Fort Hood, Texas. Stateside, George was employed by the US Postal Service. August 1995, he was presented the US Postal Service 30 year Service Award Pin. George retired from the USPS in Jan 2005.
George is survived by wife of 60 years, Muriel A. Herring, his daughter Shawn R. Herring and grandson Tyler A. Herring. His son, Craig Lawrence Herring (Tyler’s father) predeceased him in July 2016. His two sisters, Delores Kirk & family, Gloria Faye Burney & family, his brother Charles Herring and sister-in-law Vickye Herring. His uncle Joseph Herring & family. As well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In his free time he enjoyed listening to R&B music. He was also an avid sports enthusiast who didn’t have a favorite team, but as he would say “I just always enjoy a good game”.
A memorial celebration of George’s life will be scheduled at a later date.
