Guillermina Mojica

Guillermina Mojica, lovingly known as “Milagro” was born on August 29, 1937 in Arecibo Esperanza, Puerto Rico to Quiterio Rivera Roman and Felicita Sanchez. She was the eldest of 10 children. She came to NY as a young woman where she met Miguel Angel Mojica in Manhattan at a Thanksgiving party. Their love flourished and they shared 8 children together: Mildred Gonzalez, Lydia Rivera, Jose Mojica, Lucy Orellana, Isabel Mojica, Rosilda Mojica, Angel Mojica and Minerva Mojica. Guillermina had a huge passion for spending time and gathering with family. She loved her culture and cooking foods such as pasteles, pernil, arroz con gandules, and other Puerto Rican cuisines. One of the greatest pleasures that she had was playing dominoes all through the night. Guillermina was particular about her appearance, needing every hair in place before she left a room. She was very independent, strong and proud.

After raising her children, she decided to pursue her education at SUNY Farmingdale where she received her diploma in professional studies as a certified nursing assistant. Pleased to share her accomplishments, she kept her diploma on display for everyone to see. She helped medically fragile elders and took great joy in doing it.

As a loving family matriarch, she played a vital role in raising her grandchildren, Dara and Sajavan. When her daughter and four kids needed help, she opened her home to them for a year. Her love for family gatherings was evident in the holiday dinners she frequently hosted.

Guillermina had a very whimsical spirit and comical personality that always drew people to be in the midst of her presence. She will be sorely missed by all of her family and friends.

Guillermina was preceded in death by her husband Miguel Mojica, her daughter Isabel Mojica, her brothers Francisco, Jose, and Ceferino. She is survived by her 7 siblings Juan, Virginia, Blanca, Jesus, Angel, Jamie, Hereberto, as well as her 7 children Mildred, Lydia, Jose, Lucy, Rosilda, Angel and Minerva, and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. May she rest in peace. The family thanks everyone for their prayers, comfort, and words of encouragement during this difficult time.
