Ian Byron Simmons, aged 45 of Uniondale, New York passed away on December 20, 2025. Ian, one of two beloved sons of Jennifer and Bernard Simmons, was born on March 24, 1980. Coming of age, Ian was a well-rounded student involved in sports, such as football and track & field, as well as a bassist within the school's orchestra. He graduated from Uniondale High School in 1998 and continued his studies at Stony Brook University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in biology in 2003 with an interest in health sciences. He subsequently went on to begin a career helping those with mental health conditions and remained in the field for 20 years, eventually rising to the position of Supervisor of Mental Behaviors for Family Residences & Essential Enterprises. Ian was known for his kind nature and ability to bring a smile to the faces of those who knew him. Throughout his life, Ian had a thirst for knowledge, exploring graduate-level medical sciences and a variety of hobbies. He found joy in cooking and baking, making bread and pasta from scratch, as well as experimenting with the preparation of foods from diverse cultures. As a fish enthusiast, he raised a multitude of species, with his most recent (and favorite) being his RanchÅ«s, for whom he created a diverse and thriving habitat. He also enjoyed gardening, where he grew many fruits and vegetables that he integrated into his culinary cuisines. Ian was preceded in death by his grandparents, Genieva and Egbert Dash, and Alma and Kenneth Simmons; his uncles and aunts, Renee, Blair, Coleen, and Keith Dash, Byron Graham, and Russell Andrews. Ian is survived by his long-term partner, Debra Fleming; his daughter, Madison, and her mother, Leah Habersham; his parents, Jennifer and Bernard; his brother, Michael, and his partner, Aloise Levesque; his godparents, Sheryl Carpenter and Carlos Petit; his niece and nephew, Joselyn and Avery Simmons. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles: Winston and Doreen Simmons; Margaret Dash and her son, Ross Dash; Ingrid Dash and her daughters and son; Sandra and Maria Dash; Annette Dash and her sons, Richard, Christopher, and Kurtis; Sheryl and Scott Carpenter and their children, Julian and Olivia; Patricia Graham and her daughter, Shannon Graham and Alex Petit; Brenda Simmons; Stacey Paul; Patricia Andrews and her children, Jude, Steven, and Renee; Carol and Arthur Gomez; Joan and Roy Chin; and Marlene Petit and her sons Sean and Carlos. His cousins include Dhaana and her daughter, Mia; Dominic Simmons and his wife, Jacara, and their two daughters; Nigel and his daughter Shinique; Nicole and her daughters Asia and Zaria; Roxanne and Andre Soverall and their children, Jessica, and Jonathan; Karen and Michael Carew; Nathalie and Richard Hackshaw and their daughter, Solange; Catherine and Wayne Carter and their sons and daughters; and Janelle and Liz Ip, and their children Jasmine and Mae. His untimely passing leaves a void in all those who knew and loved him. Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Tuesday, January 6th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Harnett Funeral Home in Uniondale, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated the following day, Wednesday, January 7th at 9:30 am at Saint Martha’s Roman Catholic Church in Uniondale, NY.
