James “Jim” McMahon, 91, of Uniondale NY, passed away on November 3, 2024, after a brief illness. He was born in New York City on April 24, 1933, and was the son of John and Josephine McMahon.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army and served as Post Commander for Uniondale American Legion Post 1487 since 2005. During his tenure as Commander, the post was involved in many local and community events, including supporting the local ROTC program at Hofstra University.
Jim retired from Grumman Aerospace in Bethpage, NY, where he was a senior design engineer. Among many other projects, he was involved with the Apollo space program and the Lunar Module design and the F-14 Tomcat program.
Jim was predeceased by his wife, Carol, whom he married July 20, 1957, his parents and two brothers.
He is survived by his daughter Erin, and her husband Luke, Bartolomeo of Uniondale, N.Y.; his son James, and his wife Carol, McMahon of Stanfordville, N.Y.; his grandsons Luke Bartolomeo and Dale Bartolomeo; his granddaughters Ashley, and her husband Michael, Graff and Courtney McMahon; and great grandsons Michael and Owen Graff; as well as nieces, nephews and friends who will fondly remember him.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4-8pm on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Hartnett Funeral Home, 561 Jerusalem Ave.,Uniondale, NY, 11553. Interment at Pinelawn Memorial Park will take place at a future date at the convenience of the family. Condolences may be made to the family at www.hartnettfuneralhome.com.
