John B. Harris, 80, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre, New York. We celebrate the life of a son, a husband, a brother, an uncle, a father and a servant of God. His sunrise began on August 27, 1945, to the proud parents of Louise and George Harris, Sr. He was one of four siblings including Lillie Mae, predeceased by George Harris, Jr. and Betty Harris. John was born in Ridge Springs, South Carolina and later made Hempstead, New York his home for the rest of his life He was educated in the Hemnstead school system where he was known for his love of sports and competition. As a young man, John proudly participated in lacrosse, football, basketball, and wrestling where he was New York State Champion in 1963 and in 1964. Through his sportsmanship, he built friendships and memories that stayed with him throughout his life. John was a hardworking and dedicated man who spent many years working with Dobbs House International and later with the Hempstead Public Schools. Through his work and daily life, he formed countless connections and friendships in the community he loved. Affectionately known as Johnnie B, he will be remembered most for the person he was. He had a warm heart, a generous spirit, and a sense of humor that could brighten anyone's day. He was the kind of man who would always lend a hand, offer advice, or show up when someone needed help. Helping others wasn't something he thought about-it was simply who he was. Left to cherish his legacy and memories, his beloved wife, Kristin Harris, and his loving daughter, Nicole Harris, who were the center of his world. He is survived by his sister, Lillie Mae Jones and step-sister Lorna Matthews. Sister-in-laws, Sandra Harris, Soffia Whitman and Denise Jenks. Three Special family members, Polly Bates, Dessie Smith and Major Christia. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and faithful friends. To know John was to know kindness, laughter, and loyalty. His presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. The memories he created, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
