Leslie P. Nosworthy, otherwise known as Corpie, Bunun, Pops, Grandpa, Sir Nos, Uncle Les, Blink, and Rempa went home to be with the Lord at 8:40 pm on Friday, January 6, 2017. He died at home, where he lived for the past 39 years surrounded and supported by his loving family and caregivers. Leslie stretched his hands straight up, lifted his head high and surrendered to the Lord. Leslie was born in Lucea, Hanover, Jamaica West Indies on January 22, 1926, the son of Jestina SmithNosworthy and Charles A. Nosworthy. He was one of fourteen brothers and sisters. Leslie attended Seafield Elementary School in Saint Catherine, where he was an active boy scouts member. On Sundays he attended Seafield Presbyterian Church, where his mother was an active member. Owen Livingston (George), his childhood friend, has a lot of fond memories of them, riding bicycles, being in the boy scouts, and going to Church together. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 19 to study horticulture, which became his passion. He worked in the landscaping field for several years until he acquired his own landscaping business approximately forty years ago and continued doing the bookkeeping and working in the field until he retired at the age of 81 years old. Leslie was a kind, humble, quiet, peaceful man, who tried to avoid conflicts at all cost. A man of very few words, yet he always had a word of encouragement if it was needed, as can be told by his conversational buddy, Sandra Saunders. As Clemston, one of his nephews stated, he would observe you and assess you quietly to get an idea of your character. In fact, Leslie judiciously evaluated his life and had a saying “plan your life and work your plan.” Anthony, his son pointed out that he had a plaque hanging in the garage as a reminder. As Leslie got older, he transitioned into the man God wanted him to be; he could often be heard praying out loud, talking to God and speaking in tongues. Leslie is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Daphne Nosworthy; along with four children: Glenroy Nosworthy, Vincent Nosworthy, Anthony Nosworthy, and Lorraine Sewar. Stepchildren: Juliet Lecky, Faith Angela Josephs, Patrick Josephs, and Austin Josephs, Jr. Daughters-in-law: Yvonne Nosworthy, Sharon Nosworthy, Maureen Josephs, and Jacqueline Josephs; 24 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and one brother. Extended family: Sandra Saunders, Marjorie Anglin, Erma Josephs, Kim Howell, Blossom Josephs and their children and many other loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by ten brothers and two sisters. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hartnett Funeral Home in Uniondale, New York. The funeral services and viewing will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 21st, 2017 at the funeral home; burial will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York
