Loretta Ann Winfield was born on February 28, 1959, to Cleveland and Vernetta Winfield at Meadowbrook Hospital in East Meadow, New York. She was raised in Hempstead, New York, and from an early age was known for her kind heart and strong spirit.
Loretta was a special person in the lives of many, including William J. Willets, the first African American Police Commissioner of Nassau County.
She attended the Hempstead School District and later pursued her nursing career, completing the Hempstead Adult Education Program on June 28, 1981. Loretta began her career as a Nursing Assistant at A. Holly Patterson and faithfully served for 20 years before retiring.
Her passion for helping others continued well beyond retirement. She worked part-time as a home care attendant and dedicated herself to caring for her great nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
On April 12, 2013, Loretta married the love of her life, Clem Cooper, affectionately known as "Big Man." Together, they built a loving life in Rockville Centre, New York. During this time, Loretta deepened her faith, dedicating her life to Jehovah and being baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Loretta was the matriarch of her family. She loved to cook and host family gatherings, always bringing loved ones together. She had a big heart and the gift of seeing the good in everyone. Loretta was never shy about sharing her opinion-whether you wanted to hear it or not-and her loving, spirited presence will be deeply missed.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Clem Cooper; her son, Keon Ojiree Williams; her daughter-in-law, Kimberly Williams; her mother, Vernetta Aaron; her siblings Cleveland Winfield, Michael and Juanita Winfield, Lorraine and Johnnie Gortman, Derrick Aaron, and Felicia Aaron.
Affectionately known as "Teetee" and "Love Bug," Loretta also leaves behind 13 nieces and nephews, 13 great-nieces and nephews, and many others whose lives she touched. She shared a special bond with Jared, Taylor, Gunner, and Shamari, who filled her last days with joy and happiness.
May we all continue to hold onto faith, hope, and endurance as we "fight the fine fight" until we see Loretta again in the New World.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who have supported and comforted them during this difficult time.
