Marie Claudette Verna- Titus

On June 28th, 2025, we will come together not only in mourning but in thanksgiving—thanksgiving for the sacred and beautiful life of a devoted servant of God, Mrs. Marie Claudette Titus Verna, born on November 18, 1939, of Claire Leonard and Yvelt Titus in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She was raised by her Grandparents Mrs. Alice Douyon and the judge Lether Titus. She was called to her eternal rest in the Lord on June 14, 2025. Marie Claudette was more than a mother. More than a sister to her beloved brother, Mr. Antoine Titus. More than an aunt. She was a radiant light—a living testament of God’s love in action. As our Lord says in the Gospel of Matthew: “You shall know them by their fruits.” And oh, how plentiful her fruits were from her late husband, Mr. Fritz Verna: eight beloved children and their spouses: Mr. Friedrich Verna, Mrs. Marie Jocelyne Verna Charles, Mrs. Nancy Verna Souffrant, Mrs. Romy Verna Brunet, Mr. Fritz Jr. Verna, Mr. Frantz Verna, Mrs. Claudine Verna Salam, and Mr. Fresnel Verna, twenty-two grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. And beyond those of blood, countless others found refuge in her home and in her heart, lovingly calling her “Mammie Claudette.” Each one carries a part of her legacy. Each one is a branch of the vine she so faithfully tended—with love, with strength, and with unshakeable faith. To all who knew her, she embodied the spirit of Christ. She loved without condition. She forgave without hesitation. And she gave—not from abundance, but from a heart overflowing with compassion and trust in God. Like the widow praised by Jesus who gave her last coin, Marie Claudette gave all she had—not out of duty, but out of devotion. Her life was a quiet gospel—not proclaimed in words, but lived in grace. In every gentle act, every word of encouragement, every sacrifice unseen by the world but known to God. She was tolerant, even in the face of injustice. She was righteous, but never self-righteous. She taught her children, and all who crossed her path, not only how to live—but how to live rightly: with integrity, dignity, and faithfulness to the Lord. To the Church, she was a faithful daughter. To her community, a steady pillar. To her family, a wellspring of strength and peace. As Saint Paul once wrote to Timothy: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” So too did Marie Claudette finish her race with courage and grace. Through every storm, her faith stood firm—anchored in Christ, the solid rock. And though our hearts now grieve her passing, we know with certainty: in Christ, death does not have the final word. Marie Claudette now rests in the arms of our Heavenly Father—where there is no more pain, no more tears, no more sorrow—only peace everlasting. Let us honor her memory by walking in her footsteps: with humility, with love, and with unwavering faith. Let us carry forward the values she lived by—righteousness, generosity, kindness, and steadfast trust in God. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
