Marilyn "Dee" Weaver White Obituary

Marilyn Delores Weaver White earned her wings Saturday, March 5, 2022, at the age of 90 years old, and took flight to go home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The above mentioned name was her given name, but family knew her as Dee or Delores and most of her friends knew her as Marilyn. Delores was born in Baltimore, Maryland and was raised in Durham, North Carolina as the fourth of eleven children to the late Roosevelt and Helen Weaver. She grew up as a very active, curious, and talented child. Every Sunday, she could be found singing in the church choir with her siblings. Delores attended Durham public schools where she graduated from Hillside High School. While attending Hillside High School, she played the clarinet in the marching band and made quite a reputation for herself, developing a "reed" bottom lip. After obtaining her formal education in Durham, she relocated to Queens, New York with her young daughter Marilyn Diana Weaver. While in NY she met and married Clarence V. White, and had a son Clarence V. White, Jr. Both husband and son preceded her in death. As one of her first jobs in NY, Delores worked as a nurse's aide at a hospital on Randall's Island. Later, she spent most of her working career focused in the insurance industry. Working with Bankers Life and Casualty Company she held the position of underwriter and worked her way up to underwriting supervisor. While at Bankers, during her vacation time, she enjoyed participating in the rigorous program of Summer Stock theater in Rochester, NY. After working for Bankers for 30 years, she retired and moved to Virginia Beach. One of the things that she enjoyed most while living in Virginia Beach was singing in her church choir. Delores had the honor of going with her choir to tour Europe and sing for the Pope. A few years later she returned to NY and worked for Group Health Insurance (GHI) until they relocated into Manhattan. One of the last jobs that she held was a part time position at Henry Street Warehouse and Liquors. Delores loved interfacing with the members of her local community AND the frequent regulars! Anyone that knows Delores well, knows that she had a great love of ALL sports. At any given time, she knew all of the stats of players, what games were on, and the games you didn't want to miss. Weekends, you could find her sitting in her chair, relaxing in the living room, listening to a variety of music from jazz, to gospel, to motown. In her senior years, she grew very fond of coloring in her adult coloring books and playing games on her kindle. But her main love was her family. She took pride in keeping in touch with her family and ensuring that we were all abreast with the familys’ current events. Delores leaves behind her daughter, Marilyn Diana Weaver along with five sisters, Julia W. Harris, Lillian W. Studamire, Gloria D. Seaton, Arnetta Weaver (Richard) and Helen Rose Weaver (Arthur) Cook. Delores was not limited to a great wife and Mother, she was also a Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Her Grandchildren are Derrick Jamal White, Nigel Terrell White, Kendra Simone White and Christine D. Weston along with her Great Grandchildren, Legin Nicole White, D’mitri Xavier White, and Omari Dice Harris. Because of who she was with her wonderful, joyful, magnetic personality and great sense of humor, Delores leaves behind a multitude of loyal good friends, neighbors and co-workers who are too many to name but I am confident you know who you are and what you meant to her. The world was a better place when she was physically in it. Heaven has received their first round draft pick. God bless Marilyn Delores Weaver White and welcome her into the heavenly Kingdom.
