Obituary

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of our beloved matriarch, Monique Toussaint, who passed on February 15, 2023. She was 71 years old. Born and raised in Haiti, she migrating to the United States at the age of 14 and made New York her permanent home. She graduated from Brandeis High School, furthered her education by obtaining an associates degree and spent her career as a dedicated LPN at Nassau University Medical Center for 26 years. She touched the lives of thousands of patients on the ICU floor and wrapped up her career on the psychiatric unit. She formed long lasting friendships with colleagues from NUMC who knew her to be caring, fun and selflessly devoted to her family. Monique was loving, humorous and ardently put her family first. Her unconditional love and unwavering support helped her family navigate through life's challenges. She was known to family and friends as an amazing cook and exquisite baker amongst her other skills. In her retirement she mastered the art of gardening and would infuse her homegrown vegetables into dishes made to perfection. In her younger years she was often sought after for her immaculate needlework concerning dressmaking, crocheting and sewing. She was a woman with a plethora of talents! Her warm and comforting heart was her biggest gift.

Noteworthy of mention was Monique’s pride of her Haitian culture and upbringing. She would regularly share vivid memories from childhood involving her older brother Max Toussaint and doting younger sister Edna Toussaint. She instilled the importance of culture and family into her four [now adult] children; Bryant Appollon, Guedia Seabron, Shari Appollon and Angelique Toussaint. Along with her children, she was known as a mother to many, specifically her nieces and nephews; Marjory St. Valliere, Nadya Bhutan, Jude Fremond, Fritzner Fremond and Nirva Toussaint. She will be remembered as an altruistic woman who valued integrity, discipline, family, and authenticity. Monique’s three grandchildren Neysa Lynch, Gia Seabron and Baron Appollon will extend the foundational elements of Monique’s legacy.

As we bid farewell to our beloved matriarch, we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and reunited with her parents, Agnes and Majest Toussaint. Her memories will always remain with us, and we will cherish the moments we shared with her.

Rest in peace, you will be missed but never forgotten!
