Prudence Alume Smith-Sanchez

Prudence Sanchez, affectionately called “Claire”, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully on September 20, 2022, at the age of 56, following her battle with cancer for over 10 years.

Claire is survived by her loving husband and soul mate Delphin Sanchez (Sonny), her only child Shaniece (Moses), sisters Marva (Nile), Lorna and Marsha, brothers Phillip and Owen (Karen), granddaughter (Lilyanna); nieces and nephews, grandniece, grandnephew, in-laws, cousins, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Cecelia Sawyers, sister, Hortense Sawyers, and brother, Errol Sawyers.

Claire was born on August 6, 1966, in Bangor Ridge, Portland, Jamaica, where she lived and attended the Fairfield All Age School. In her quest for employment opportunities, she relocated to Kingston, and worked in the printing industry for a number of years. She later migrated to New York, USA where she lived for the rest of her life. It is in New York that she pursued her career in the health food industry, and became the health guru and consultant to her family, customers and friends.

It is said that the measure of a man is not the number of years he lived, but is in the lives he touched. Claire has touched many lives. She was known for her passion for life and her family, and was considered a ray of sunshine to those who knew her. She was always ready and willing to lend support to those in need in whatever areas she could even in spite of her very own challenges. She has certainly left a void in our lives but her memories will forever dwell in our hearts.

Family and friends are invited to the “Celebration of Life & Memorial Service” being held on Saturday, October 8, 2022 @ 3:30 pm ET, at the Hartnett Funeral Home, 561 Jerusalem Ave, Uniondale, New York 11553.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
