Rosa Mae Jenkins, the daughter of the late John and Rosanna McGill was born on February 15,1924 in Apalachicola Florida.
Rosa attended Dunbar high school where she met the love of her life Walter Chappell Jenkins. They were united in holy matrimony in Apalachicola Florida on March 10, 1941. Out of this union of love eight children were born, three who preceded her in death Walter, Raymond,Cynthia.
Rosa moved to Brooklyn NY in 1945 with her two young sons, when Walter was enlisted into the Navy, and he later joined her upon his discharge. In 1968, Rosa and Walter decided to move their family to Roosevelt, Long Island. Rosa and Walter were married for 53 years until he was called home on June 10 1994.
Rosa was a devoted wife and mother. She was a homemaker who loved to cook and bake. She was best known for her delicious oatmeal raisin cookies, lemon meringue pie and carrot cakes. Rosa was an avid reader and soap opera devotee.
She had a memory that was very sharp even to the end of her life. She loved to sit and tell stories about family and growing up in Apalachicola.
On Tuesday, Sept 20,2022 while in the comfort of her home, the Lord called Rosa home, and she peacefully answered.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three sons, Arnold, Bruce, Daryl, 2 daughters, Linda, Janice, one daughter in law, Carol, three grandchildren, Andrew (Melissa) Kawanna Nicole,and Janaya, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, and a host of nieces, grandnieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
