Sheila Ann Bennett, 61, returned to her heavenly home on April 28, 2021 after putting up a courageous battle against cancer. She was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her by living each day to the fullest.
Sheila or Vivien as she was affectionately known to close family members, was born on January 6, 1960 to parents Velma Johnson and the late Leroy Steele in Jamaica West Indies.
She attended Highgate All Age School as a youngster and then went on to Richmond Secondary School in Jamaica. After moving to America in 1988 she earned her GED and later enrolled in classes at Nassau Community College.
Sheila was most recently employed at Maple Pointe Assisted Living in Rockville Center where she served as a caregiver to the elderly. She had a big heart and found fulfillment in service to others.
Sheila's laughter was contagious and she loved flashing her gap tooth smile. She had a great sense of humor and was a jokester up until the very end. When she wasn't laughing she was singing. Boy did she love to sing!!!
Sheila's faith and her love for God gave her the strength to overcome many struggles in her life. No matter what challenges came her way, she met them head on with dignity, grace, and the belief that God would see her through.
Right up there with her love for God was the love she had for her family and friends. She spoke to family in Jamaica on a daily basis and was there for them through good times and bad times. In the final weeks of her life. She held on so that she could make the trip to see her grandkids one last time.
Sheila leaves behind 3 children, Yanique, Shannae, and Lavaughn and 5 grandchildren, Amari, Christian, Aliyah, Laila, and Cameron. She will be greatly missed.
