Syvie Apollon’s Legacy of Love

Syvie Apollon was born to Alima Apollon and Mercedes Michel on July 20th, 1939 in Dame Marie, Haiti. She was the second eldest of six children, she left behind her siblings Ilerma  Apollon and Marirene Apollon.  In her later years, she move to Port-au-Prince, Haiti where she gave birth to her only child Myrlande, who she referred to as “ sèl grenn je’m. She was known throughout her community as a person of compassion and care. Though she only had one child she was a mother to many, with all of her ‘children’ she would often go to prayer services.

In 1999, she came to the United States of America and spent the remainder of her life here in Uniondale. For 24 years she took great care of her family, her son-in-law Roberts and her granddaughters. Her nurturing nature continued and she enveloped her entire family in her warmth. Spending Saturdays traveling to the flea market with her son-in-law, gardening with her daughter, teaching her granddaughter Haitian Creole and watching Jerry Springer with them.

She truly helped to mold them into the adults they are now. As the years went on her family grew, she gained grandsons and became a great-grandmother as well. All who crossed her path never left without a full stomach and love in their heart.

Syvie Apollon was more than a person; she was the living embodiment of kindness, generosity, and love. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touches, the immeasurable act of care she performed, and the love she shared unconditionally.
