William John “Bill” Lowe passed away on his 88th birthday, August 11, 2020 in The Villages, Florida. Born in Pennsylvania, he grew up in Brooklyn and spent most of his life in Hempstead, NY.
Bill will be sadly missed by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Snyder Lowe, his children; David Lowe of Sylmar, CA, Kathleen Lowe Blinder and husband Kenneth Blinder of Copiague, NY and The Villages, FL, Thomas Lowe and partner Nicholas Humen of Palm Springs, CA and James Lowe of Warwick, NY.
He is survived by grandchildren; Lauren Gathmann-Landini, Janine Landini, Michael Landini, Meaghan Lowe, Ryan Lowe, Kevin Lowe, great-grandchildren; Fenno Gathmann-Landini, Wilder Gathmann-Landini, son-in-law Robert Landini, daughter-in-law Linda Albano Lowe, granddaughter-in-law Rebecca Gathmann Landini, sisters-in-law Rosana Bruner and Irene Saucier, nieces Carrie Saucier Luckey, Michelle Bruner Payne and nephews Craig Saucier and Scott Saucier, step-grandaughters; Ilyssa Blinder Risolo, Lindsey Blinder and Brittany Blinder. He is pre-deceased by his parents Thomas Erwin Lowe and Grace Derca Lowe and was their only child.
Bill served in the United States Navy from 1950 through 1954. He was a mechanical engineer for the Sperry Gyroscope Company before becoming a New York City Firefighter in 1960. He proudly served for 34 years in Engine Companies 275 and 320.
An avid traveller, Bill, along with Shirley, orchestrated three cross-country trips in 1972, 1974 and 1981 as well as countless camping adventures with their children.
A great lover of golf, music, horseshoes, betting on the horses and a good joke, Bill will always be remembered for putting a smile on everyone’s face.
